Power BI for Enviro’s Meetup - November Session!
What we'll do
We have a jam-packed line up for our November edition of Power BI and Data Analytics for Enviros, with lots of interesting case studies of data analytics across the environmental industry, and some Power BI design tips and tricks.
The line-up is:
1) Indigenous led AI in Kakadu National Park (~ 15 min): Justin Perry will talk to us about how the CSIRO team are integrating Azure cognitive services with Power BI to support adaptive weed management in the Kakadu National Park.
2) Water Accounting, Monitoring and QA Checks with Power BI:
Douglas De Brito (Waikato Regional Council - NZ) will share several case studies of how he's applying Power BI to streamline water management, including:
- Water Quantity Accounting using Power BI (~ 15 min)
- Monitoring Water Low Flow Conditions with Power BI (~ 5 min)
-Enabling Hydrological Field Inspections and QA Checks with Power BI (Service and App) (~ 5 min)
3) Power BI Applications in the Water Industry (~20 mins): Phil Meng and Louise Holbrook will be sharing some case studies from their work at the Water Corporation in Western Australia, including:
- Wastewater Time to Overflow Visualisation
- Groundwater Abstraction Scheduling
- Bushfire Risk Assessment Tool.
4) Networking, Q&A and "Ask the Enviro Experts panel" (15 mins)
**********Info on your hosts and presenters are below**********
Douglas De Brito has around 21 years of experience on DB development, business analysis, reporting and system support, mainly in the banking sector in Brazil. He has spent the last 2.5 years with a shift to Environmental Monitoring at Waikato Regional Council, after moving to NZ from Brazil. Working as Data Analyst on process automation and data visualization, exploring Excel and Power BI capabilities to deliver data insights, data gaps/anomalies detection and automated extraction tools.
Dr Justin Perry is a research scientist with CSIRO based in Northern Queensland, Australia. Justin has been involved with practical land management and adaptive management of threats to Australia’s unique natural values for over 20 years. He is currently leading several projects that are working closely with end users to manage feral animals, weeds and fire on vast remote Indigenous estates in northern Australia. Justin’s research focus has been on leveraging emerging technologies to overcome some of the inherent challenges faced by land managers in remote difficult to access areas.
