Learn how can Power BI be applied within the Environmental Industry
In this course you will learn:
How to Get Started using Power BI: A crash-course in Power BI from data import, data modelling, calculations (DAX), visualisations and collaboration, so you can apply to your own projects back in the office.
How to Streamline Data Management: A tour of the Power Query and Data Modelling engines, where we will collate lots of different environmental datasets together from various sources (i.e. CSV, Excel & PDF) to create a centralised database.
How to Create Interactive Maps, Charts and Tables: An introduction into Power BI visualisations, where we’ll create interactive maps, time-series charts and matrices to display trends in environmental indicators over time.
How To Create an Environmental Risk Assessments: We’ll introduce the DAX language, with a practical example of how to calculate a series of environmental statistics to inform environmental risk criteria and assessments, and combine this with conditional formatting to present results using a ‘traffic light’ system.
How to Embed Infographics, Icons and Images: We’ll explore how to combine photos, icons and interactive infographics into your Power BI reports to provide greater context and help bridge the communication gap between scientists, decision makers and key stakeholders.
How to Perform Climate Change Scenario Analysis: We’ll explore different applications for ‘What If’ scenario parameters to dynamically assess the impacts of climate change and population growth on our environmental systems.
How to Bring it all Together in Interactive Dashboards: We’ll bring together all the individual pieces into an interactive dashboard, and explain concepts such as edit interactions, tooltips, drill-down, to create an interactive reporting tool for environmental management.
How to Design Stakeholder Engagement Tools: We’ll refine our dashboard by including supporting context and story telling techniques (bookmarks, buttons and narratives) to help communicate key findings to a wide range of audiences.
How to Share and Report Online: An introduction to the secure Power BI online service, where we’ll publish our environmental management dashboard to the cloud, and show you how to embed your report in SharePoint, Websites, and the Mobile App.
By completing our training course, you’ll be able to take your environmental studies to the next level - and develop interactive environmental management reporting tools and online dashboards to streamline data processing, analysis and communication, and develop a culture of data driven decision making across your organisation.

Discover how we deliver our training, with a difference:
Designed for Environmental Professionals: Unlike most Power BI training courses out there which focus on sales, logistics and finance datasets, our training is designed by Environmental Engineers tailored for the environmental industry. Your trainers Alice and Christian , both have close to 10 years experience working across the water resources and contaminated land industries, are Microsoft Associates in Business Intelligence, and Microsoft Certified Trainers in BI Reporting. They work in your industry. They speak your language. They are your data champions!
Fast-tracked Group Learning: Our courses are designed to fast-track your learning. We limit each class to a maximum of 8 people, and have least one trainer per 4 participants. We apply a group learning approach, where participants learn together and help each other. This really improves the retention of material and fast-tracks the program.
Cheat Sheets, Check Lists and Templates: You’ll learn Power BI, in Power BI! We won’t weigh you down with lengthy manuals, or overload you with slides. We provide PBIX files, cheat sheets and check-lists which are invaluable resources when you get back in the office and are creating your own Power BI projects!
Select your preferred training method:
Online: Two-day training (14 hours of content), with structured group learning, exercises and Q&A sessions. Course delivered in Zoom, and available to cater for different time-zones.
