Welcome to the launch event for Power BI and Data Analytics for Enviro's. This group is about three key things:
- Sharing experiences in data analytics;
- Learning new tips, tricks & hacks; and
- Empowering all Enviro's in using these tools.
The format for our launch session will be:
1) Meet and greet with a couple of short interviews of Enviro's using Power BI (15 mins)
2) Power BI 101 Tutorial by Alice Drummond and Christian Borovac (15 mins)
3) A couple of short case studies from other Enviro professionals on how they're using Power BI in their projects, including (30 mins):
Lachlan Guthrie (Griffith University) presenting on Power BI report for the Covid-19 Water Security Risk Index: https://watercentre.org/covid-19-water-security-risk-index/
Jarrod Gaut (Water_Insites) presenting on Power BI for Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD). Power BI is being used to provide a simple and consistent real-time web interface to display time-series data from a WSUD monitoring project here in Geelong. The project includes a few different sensor products across 5 sites that upload and store the raw data in different formats, and so Power BI was a great option to make this all look the same without needing any software development skills. 4) Networking and "Ask the Enviro Experts panel" hosted by Alice Drummond, Christian Borovac and Daniel Marsh-Patrick (30 mins)
**********Info on your hosts and presenters are below**********
Christian Borovac is co-founder of DiscoverEI and enjoys helping visualise the complex environmental problems that we are working to solve. He has 9 years’ experience working as an Environmental Engineer, specialising in contamination assessment and remediation, and has helped clean-up impacted sites across Australia and New Zealand. Through coordinating field programs and managing remediation projects, Christian understands the importance of collecting representative data and processing it efficiently. Christian knows how the simple act of combining schematics and visualisations can be a really powerful tool in helping bridge the communication gap.
Alice Drummond is co-founder of DiscoverEI and her passion is finding clever ways to process, analyse and share environmental data. Alice is heavily involved in the Power BI community, being a Microsoft MVP for the Data Platform. Drawing on her background working for over 9 years as environmental engineer specialising in surface water and groundwater modelling, Alice works collaboratively with government organisations to turn mountains of data into practical, useful, decision-guiding insights. Alice has a deep understanding of how environmental data can be used to provide insights, drive efficiencies and really improve communication.
Jarrod Gaut has worked for local government and private consultancy with a focus on asset modelling, asset management and monitoring, as well as maintenance and rectification of WSUD assets. water_insites was created with the aim of bringing the latest learnings and technology including GIS, in-situ monitoring and data analysis to ensure WSUD assets can be highly functional and cost effective for asset owners. Really, I just love playing around with all things data, sensors and other gadgets to make asset management easier and see better environmental outcomes!
